Let’s take it back…
I’m a classic middle child who had a knack for finding ridiculous ways to attract the attention of my vibrant Cuban family. On my parents’ wedding anniversary, I believed the best way to celebrate them in front of all their friends was to display their marital woes in the form of an avant garde performance piece. My parents were horrified, but the jokes totally landed. Life was joyous yet messy for me as a child but I always managed to find a way to express those complex feelings through storytelling.
This unifying power of comedy would carry me in all types of collaborations from devising and acting in what would become Broadway's PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, to co-creating the Drama-League nominated CARLA'S QUINCE to writing, starring and producing the MAX short film Crabs in a Barrel.
I am deeply inspired by writer/actors Michaela Coel and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who embrace their multi-hyphenated talents in every sense of the word. I strive to continue taking fearless risks in my work and redefine what a Latina storyteller is capable of.

“Alvarez is excellent... she balances the tricky character, who is loving but tightly wound.”

“Alvarez’s Christy is a dynamo...Her hurt at the ongoing disconnect with Martica, her sense of her mother’s perpetual disapproval, is palpable.”
